Upcoming Christmas Markets Not To Be Missed
When it comes to Christmas, there are those who dread the start of those played-to-death supermarket carols and those who can’t wait to start painting the town green, red and gold. We, at the Kloof Project, fall into the latter group. For us, Christmas fills the Kloof surrounds with a vibrant and contagious cheer unlike any other. But more importantly, it brings the Kloof community together as people celebrate the festive season with their friends and family and take part in all the local festivities. Speaking of which, we thought we’d clue you in on a few of our favourite no-to-be missed family markets taking place close to home. Start your gift shopping early and take advantage of the opportunity to support the local talent with these fantastic Christmas markets.
Makaranga Christmas Faire
When: 8th -10th November at 2-7 pm
Where: Makaranga Garden Lodge, Kloof
About: You can’t call yourself a Kloof resident until you’ve visited the glorious gardens of Makaranga Garden Lodge. Taking place within this magical spot, is the annual Makaranga Christmas Faire, which will be providing great entertainment for kids, live music and stalls from the most talented craftsmen in the area. You can also pre-book a picnic if you’d like to make the most of the stunning sights and sounds.
The Festive Market
When: 7th December – 16th December at 9-5pm
Where: Hillcrest High School
About: With over 100 tables of clothes, treats and Christmas goodies showcased over a period of 10 days, the Festive Market is one of the most epic Christmas markets of the year. Beautifully decorated stalls are set up inside the High School’s large hall and you can hideout from the summer sun while you shop the most exquisite handcrafted items.
Bellevue Market
When: TBC, markets usually take place 5pm-9pm on Fridays
Where: 5 Bellevue Road, Kloof
About: Christmas in Kloof is just not the same without a momentous market at Bellevue Cafe. You can expect all the artisanal stalls you love and then some! Wine, craft beer, elegant fashion, decor and Christmas crafts will be displayed in the hippest, vibiest part of town.
Christmas Market in the Meadow
When: November 30th, 8am – 3pm
Where: Meadow Tea Garden, Hillcrest
About: This is definitely an event you want to bring your kids along to. There will be pony rides for the kids and all sorts of interesting stalls for the adults to shop around.
The Barn, Christmas Pop Up
When: November 29th-30th, 8am – 3pm, Friday 10am-6pm, Saturday 10am-5pm
Where: D67, 10 Hawkstone road, Summerveld
About: Gin, beer, gourmet ice-cream, art displays and kiddies gifts in the tranquil setting of a farm-style barn…what more could you want at a market?
